TRANSLATION

Of texts and written content.

In translation, English is often less “wordy” than French—but not always. It will depend on register and your aims and audience. The goal is an engaging English version that does justice to your ideas without sounding like a translation.

INTERPRETING

For international meetings and events.

Even if you and your contacts share a working language, lost nuance or misunderstanding can stunt the day’s progress. A skilled interpreter keeps communication fluid so that you can make the most of this time.

ABOUT

Welcome! I’m Maggie Jones, a US transplant to southwestern France, and founder of W O R D L Y.

I started out in translation with a Toulouse agency primarily serving the aerospace industry. Though technical, this work included plenty of editorial content—newsletters, websites, articles, papers, etc.—which became my niche as I learned the trade.

The best thing about starting my own company in 2006 has been the freedom to follow my curiosity, including branching into research support and writing.

Working with a diverse range of clients in France and beyond, I am honored to play a part in articulating groundbreaking research, the exchange of ideas at international events, the creation of major art exhibitions, and the pursuits of companies large and small.

To each project, I bring deep thinking, enthusiasm for a good challenge, and lifelong reverence for the power of words.

REFERENCES

“The Philharmonie de Paris regularly calls on Maggie Jones. Her skill in interpreting different levels of discourse [...], promptness, and reliability have made her a key collaborator.”
— Stéphane Roth, Philharmonie de Paris
“You managed to reproduce the tone of my text and find just the right expressions in English. As a result, I am completely at ease when I say it aloud, which I was not expecting!”
— Mélanie Hours, Center for Japanese Studies, Université Jean Jaurès
“I have worked with Maggie Jones on multiple occasions for the translation of scientific papers. I always appreciate her professional approach; she draws on outside sources to ensure her grasp of the subject and to find the terminology used in the field. The questions she asks [...] have led me to go back and clarify my ideas. [...It] is an enriching process. I also appreciate the elegant style of her English.”
